Audi RS 4 Avant Car Review
The temperature system is controlled with dual-zone climate control. The car shifts quickly and easily between the gears. The brakes are phenomenal. If you have the money to afford it you should 100% look into purchasing this car. One you sit in the driver’s seat you will quite possibly never drive anything like this car again.
Details
The inside is just as impressive as the outside especially with the leather upholstery. You should be careful getting into the car since the RS Sport racing seats are a little tedious but they sure will keep you in place no matter what type of road you are driving on. Unlike some cars that have you bumping all around the seat when going around tight corners the Audio RS 4 Avant seats will have you tightly in place and comfortable there. In fact both the driver and passenger can decide what level of tightness they’d like in their seats. The one thing that is a little surprising about the seats is that they are not electric which is surprising simply because most cars that are this expensive have seats that can be adjusted with electric controls. However this is a minimal thing when you look at the big picture. The back seats are not as tight as the front seats but you will still be held firmly in place on the road. Also attractive in the interior is the steering wheel. It may feel a little bulky under your hands but it is very visually appealing-it is actually the same steering wheel as in the Lamborghini Gallardo. One thing that could have been improved upon is the fact that there are no steering wheel controls on the RS steering wheel for basic things like volume and temperature controls but there are steering wheel controls for some of the cars menus using the Set button plus and minus buttons and ‘S’ button. The S button does the same thing as other cars with this feature but about five times as well-it jumps into gear and lets you know it by the sound it makes out of the exhaust. One plus is that when you do kick it into ‘S’ the car creates minimal interior engine noise which is commendable for the amount of noise it makes outside the vehicle. Both the pedals and the gear level are aluminum and all are well built and easy to operate. One of the features that is inside that is quite typical of cars in this price bracket is the color LCD screen. While it has the basic features that other cars have such as being able to control the audio controls navigation controls and watch a little TV and DVD it also has a feature that allows you to use SD memory cards by inserting them into two slots in the screen.
This is a feature that not many other vehicles have made standard yet. The temperature system is controlled with dual-zone climate control. The center armrest though necessary and frequently used gets in the way when the hand brake is needed. This is not that big of a deal but does get a little tedious when using the hand brake a lot. Also similarly to other expensive vehicles is the 10 speaker BOSE audio system with a 6 disc CD player. One down side to the CD player is that while other cars feature a single disc CD player on the dash as well as the hidden 6 disc the Audi does not feature this so to change CDs it is mandatory to reach into the glove box to do so. This is not exactly an easy feat when driving. Also featured in the standard features of the RS4 Avant are electric windows and mirrors parking sensors fog lights an anti-theft alarm cruise control automatic windshield wipers and Bi-xenon headlights and automatic dimming mirrors. For an extra charge you can also equip your vehicle with ceramic brakes an electric glass or solar sunroof heated front seats black exterior styling a sports steering wheel and double glazed windows. Probably the most expensive addition would be the ceramic brakes coming in at an additional $13000 price tag.
From the front you can tell that the Audi RS 4 Avant means business. With impressive tires brakes and roof racks the Avant also has the typical holes in the front to assist with air for the two radiators. While other cars that have these holes typically do not have a function for them the Audi is different-they actually serve a purpose. The car has some components in the exterior that make it quite distinctive from other cars though it does not look that different from the Audi A4 wagons. Even still you will definitely get stares from people that know the value of the vehicle you are driving-I mean you will be paying $170000 so that definitely deems this car worthy of stares. If you are interested in purchasing an Audi RS4 there are three different models you can look at which will vary in price range. The Sedan retailing at $164500 the Avant retailing at $168100 and the Cabriolet retailing at $187500. For the purpose of this review I will talk primarily about the Avant.
So we know it is impressive on the inside and aesthetically so how does it drive? Well first and foremost it is easy to maneuver and that is always a plus. If you are looking for a car that has a quiet feature to it you need to keep on moving. There is no denying that you have an RS4 in your garage starting up as it makes a ton of noise-especially when started from a dead cold state! However shifting braking steering-they are all simplistic and enjoyable. The car shifts quickly and easily between the gears. The brakes are phenomenal. They are much lighter than other brakes though they are huge. While some brakes tend to start working less when they have been used a great deal that is not the case with the RS4. On the contrary it starts to work better once the brakes have been worked out a little bit. If you do decide to use the ‘S’ feature it will sharpen the response time when you push down on the accelerator and make it a sportier drive overall. You definitely only push this when you are going to be doing some serious driving. Take it around a sharp turn and you will be impressed with its ability to hug that curve and pop you out of the other side smoothly and with no trouble. The hug on the curve can be attributed to a couple of things-the All Wheel Drive system and the tires. As with the shifting and braking the steering is also on point. You constantly will feel like you are in control of all four wheels of the vehicle and though you have to do some considerable holding on to steer it you are able to make decisions with more concise movements rather than oversteering. You will probably never feel like you are going to lose control of the car and run off the road no matter what type of curves you take this car through. Everything about the car is so user friendly and easy it makes it an excellent contender for your basic car to use to drive around city settings as well as taking it out to do some more serious driving. There are not many situations you can put this car in that it would not be able to handle with little to no effort. If it does happen to get into a sticky situation there are plenty of safety measures in this vehicle that will help. Some of the standard safety features you will find the RS 4 Avant are Anti Lock Brake System brakes with Brake Assist multiple airbags for not only both front seat passengers but for rear passengers as well Electronic Stability Control tire pressure monitoring Anti Slip Regulation and Electronic Differential Lock. The steering and suspension are also safer than those in other vehicles.
If you are looking to take a road trip you will be a little limited on the number of passengers you take with you. While there is plenty of room in the front seat for two passengers that is not the same for the back seat. One of the few downfalls of this vehicle is that there is not that much room for adult passengers in the back seat. For people like my dad who have a considerable height it will be quite small for them in the leg room department.
Fortunately it makes up for the lack of back seat space by having a lot of room in the trunk for luggage or other things that might need to be moved around. The amp and subwoofer for the sound system are well positioned in the trunk so that they do not take up a great deal of space as they do in some vehicles. One of the reasons that so much space is possible is because the Audi does not give you a spare tire of any kind it just gives you a tire repair kit. This to me was a little strange considering the price you are paying for the vehicle. Sometimes tires are unable to be repaired in which case putting a sealant on it won’t help that much. It is however a nice smooth ride that is enjoyable with a great suspension that will make your ride bearable no matter what type of roads you might be driving along. The fuel efficiency will get you about 13.5L/100KM which is not bad for a V8 especially. This number will vary depending on the type of driving you are doing of course.
If you purchase this car looking for recognition there is a great possibility that you will not get it. Rich people who are looking to flaunt an expensive car do not even look in this area because they do not know the value of what they would be buying. They want something like a Lamborghini that is going to draw attention from just about anyone. You will have to explain to just about everyone what the value of this vehicle really is but once you explain it to people and let them either ride or drive the car they will realize that it can outdrive just about any car in its price range. In addition there will be times where you come across someone that knows this car and they will have a jaw dropping moment when they encounter your vehicle because they know what you are really driving.
One of the more surprising things about the Audi RS 4 Avant is the engine size. With a 4.2 Liter V8 engine it is unlike most other cars its size which have a V6 at the most. The engine definitely grabs your attention if you lift the hood. Accelerating from 0 to 100 in 4.8 seconds the get up and go is quite impressive and will leave many unsuspecting traffic light duelers in the dust.
If you have the money to afford it you should 100% look into purchasing this car. Sure you may have issues with the noise it makes when starting from a cold start. Or maybe some of the interior features are not what you would expect. However these things are all minimal when you look at what you are getting for your price. Other vehicles may have similar things that are wrong with them but will most definitely have other things to complain about as well. That is here the Audi RS 4 Avant is different. There are minimal things to complain about which makes the positive features much more noticeable. One you sit in the driver’s seat you will quite possibly never drive anything like this car again. It is that spectacular. If you have the opportunity to test drive one of these vehicles or even ride as a passenger with a friend DO IT. It will be well worth your while and I promise you that you will end up thinking about purchasing it. If you dont well all people are entitled to their opinion but there is not much about this car to not like and a whole lot about it to love. I recommend this car for anyone that can afford it unless of course you are looking for a car to carry around many large rear passengers in. That would be the only time that I would not recommend it. If you are not going to be carrying around people in your backseat that often or if the only people in the backseat are going to be children then this car is absolutely a good contender. Not only will it please you for the time being with all of the standard features and safety features but it will be a car that will last a long time since it is so well built. While there are some cars that I just moderately recommend this is a car that will stick out in my mind forever and if you test drive it or ride in it I can promise you that it will stick out in your mind forever too. Give it a try – I guarantee that you will not regret it.
