Daewoo Kalos SE Car Review
One of the more popular trends at this moment in time is getting small cars that are cheaply priced. This could be due to the fact that gas prices are so high and SUVs and trucks are infamous for their high fuel efficiency Since there is such a demand for these small types of vehicles more and more car manufacturers are producing the cheap small car. This can be a difficult thing for manufacturers since there is a competition for who can get the best fuel efficiency and who can put the most components and the most features into a small car without running up the budget which is not much to begin with. That is one of the main things that makes these cars a little more enjoyable to drive. When you sit down in it you know that each and every thing that was put in the car was done with precise planning because there was not an abundance of money to spend on the manufacturing process. With luxury cars you expect it to be decked out on the inside because they have a huge budget to finance the manufacturing especially since the buyer is going to pay an arm and a leg for it. The Daewoo is known for having small cars that fit well into this category. One of their new options if the Daewoo Kalos SE which fits this class perfectly. As a $14990 car you can’t get more affordable than that. Now does it have the components inside to make it a good buy?
Physically getting into the car was easier than expected for a small car. The tall door openings make it quite easy. Once you get in the inside of the car you will see that it has a decent amount of standard features equipped in the car. Sitting in the seats will automatically give you the feeling of comfort. Front seat and back seat passengers have plenty of room to move around however they may need. Unfortunately you will most likely not want to tote around grown people in the center seat in the back but if you have a child and are carrying people for a short distance it could work. The two passengers on either side in the back have plenty of space actually may have more than some bigger cars due to the way the car is designed. While you may not have central locking with the handheld remote or electric mirrors you will find electric windows in both the front and back seats. The controls can all be found convenient areas for both the driver and the passenger and everything has a look of class to it. You can also expect to find airbags in the front seat for both the driver and passenger and a steering column that is adjustable with power steering. The audio system has four speakers and a single disc CD player which is an average set up for this vehicle. The air conditioning is quite nice as well. With a full car load of passengers there is a decent amount of space in the trunk to carry things. If you only have one or two passengers you can opt to fold down the rear seats for more storage room just be careful with the seatbelts as you will end up untangling them like a strand of Christmas lights when you restore the seat back to its upright position.
One of the weaker parts of the car is its 1.5 L engine which can usually be said for most cars like the Kalos. It is not the worst engine you will ever encounter but it is definitely nothing for Daewoo to make a big deal about and in their press release for this car they did not even mention the engine. Surprise surprise. However once you are driving the car it does not exhibit a weak engine by any means. It is not the most powerful and strong engine in the world but it perfectly performs the purposes that you need it to perform if you just want to drive it and not much more. It doesn’t perform as well when you are going over different types of terrains such as hills but it gets some fantastic fuel efficiency-about 8.7L/100KM for a brand new vehicle. You can use it to perform that various odds and ends and errands that are commonly found in most peoples’ day to day lives with no problem. It will not give you a smooth ride of a luxury car but it is a practical car for a good price. It has your basic expected small car suspension and steering. It is easy to round corners with the Kalos with a surprisingly good grip. Be wary of the rear tires when you have a full car or a heavy load in the trunk which can lead to a little of an oversteer issue at times.
In conclusion the Daewoo Kalos SE is a great option for those in the market for a small affordable car. For a great price and with a 3 year 100000 KM warranty the Kalos definitely deserves a test drive. If you are looking for a car with a lot of power and fancy furnishings on the interior and under the hood this is not the vehicle for you. If you are looking for a car that can get you where you need to go and keep you safe on the road while giving you more than basic features that are desirable then the Kalos just might be the one for you. For a car of its price the interior standard features are quite impressive and the exterior aesthetics are pleasing as well. While there are other cars in this class that have some manufacturing issues or do not have quite as many features in the interior of the car the Kalos has all of those things and still maintains an unbeatably low price. I suggest you give it a shot!
