Ford Performance Vehicle (FPV):

"When FPV was established we promised to stretch the boundaries of the
Australian high-performance car market," said David Flint, Managing Director of
Ford Performance Vehicles. Four years from its introduction and its safe to say
that the he has kept his promise.
Ford Performance Vehicles or FPV is the official performance car division of
Ford Australia that started in late 2002 as a joint venture between Ford
Australia and Prodrive. Since its introduction in 2002 FPV has gained high
acclaim as a performance car among the industry (including the prestigious MOTOR
magazine Performance Car of the year Award).

The 2006 range includes the V8’s; GT, GT-P, Pursuit and Super Pursuit; and the
V6’s; F6 Typhoon, F6 Tornado.
Performance:

The engine used in the V6’s is the F6 270 Turbo 6-cylinder engine; dishing out
270kW of power. The V8’s uses the Boss V8 which gives an additional 20kW. As of
2006 FPV now has four-piston Brembo front calipers standard on all models except
GT-P and Super Pursuit which feature six-piston Brembo front calipers. The
entire range is available with 19 inch alloys with new designs for the GT-P,
Super Pursuit, F6 Typhoon and Tornado.
Interior:

Once you enter the FPV, you find yourself seated in beautiful, contoured F6
sports seats. You find yourself safe and secure in the FPV with the driver’s
4-way electrical system. The revised cockpit of the FPV has exclusive sports
instrument gauges including oil pressure, temperature and boost gauges for the
turbo models. When you get stuck in those long traffic jams, you can use the
lavish interior command center that FPV boasts of. There is an LCD screen with a
Prestige 6-stack CD system wherein you can play your favorite audio or video CDs
to beat the boredom of the traffic jam or any long journey. Of course, there is
also dual-zone air conditioning to beat the heat!
The Gearbox:

The gearboxes used in the FPV are exclusive components developed with the aim of
improving the performance of the vehicle, and the quality of the gear shift
process. There is a unique gear ratio between the six-cylinder and V8 models
with an addition of double synchromesh on all the forward gears, with a single
synchromesh on the reverse, the linear bearings in the shift rail, an electronic
reverse gear lockout and direct linkage shifters. All the modifications on the
gearbox have been made to meet the demands of the high performance customers of
Australia, and the unique driving characteristics of the F6 Typhoon. One of the
features of the transmission upgrade of the FPV is an exclusive racing inspired
Shift Alert to help optimize acceleration and performance of the car. Once the
engine speed has reached maximum revs, then the driver hears audible warnings,
thus prompting the driver to change the gears of the car before the electronic
rev limit is reached. |
