Honda Accord V6 Luxury Car Review
I was really expecting a lot more out of the Honda Accord V6 Luxury being that I have always been a fan of the Accord models. The engine is outstanding but unfortunately I cannot say the same for the rest of the car. Honda has created the well looked upon Accord series for over 26 years, but it seems that they fell off the wagon when they made this one. With this build quality you will find yourself questioning Honda for the decisions that were made during the design and production of this car. You would normally put the word luxury with phrases like 'great comfort' or 'self-indulgent', but that is hardly the case here. The quality of the ride is far from comfortable and it is actually quite bouncy. The hard seats do nothing to help matters either. When designing this vehicle they were going for a buyers market in the 45-60 age group that are mostly university educated. In my opinion they failed miserably at this task. There are too many issues that are irritating and take away from the luxury experience. I don't see many people in the intended market finding this vehicle worth their time. As I said above, the 3 liter V6 engine is truly excellent and as in fact the best thing that ever happened to this vehicle. The engine is quite powerful and it blends with the 5 speed automatic transmission flawlessly making this one of the best V6 passenger cars available. With this new engine you are looking at compression ratios changing from the previous 9:4:1 to a staggering 10:1. Some other new features available with this vehicle is the intake manifold and cylinder heads as well as an increase in size of the 12 intake valves. The VTEC system is better than those of the past and uses variable valve timing and lift, but without the two-step power curve that is known for its problems. Not only does the engine do its job well as a source of power, but it is good on the economy side of things. You won't find yourself burning too much unnecessary gas when doing everyday driving. Feeling the power of the engine is intoxicating. It feels as if it will never fail or let you down, and that is something everyone can appreciate. This engine has a lot going for it and it is sad that the rest of the car just doesn't add up.
Though the rest of the Honda Accord V6 Luxury is not horrendous or appalling it just falls into the average category. It is yet another vehicle that looks great on paper, but fails to live up to the expectations in person. It comes equipped with front and rear double wishbone suspension, Antilock Brake System (ABS), 5 speed automatic with grade logic control, and standard stability control. I am not really sure what happened but it seems like the engineering became rather poor at some point. Honda is well known for their trans logic since they have mastered it to a tee and this technology is in this vehicle. However, being that this car is priced at $45,000 and is new age I am a bit shocked that there is no tiptronic trans function present. That's not the only thing missing from this car either. It also lacks a trip computer and fuel consumption indicator, which makes absolutely no sense to me. Keep in mind that this is supposed to be a luxury vehicle. So far it is not turning out to be much of a luxury. The seat in the back does fold down but not in a split fold. If you want to lower it you will have to settle with lowering the entire seat, and even with it lowered it is somewhat awkward to get cabin access. Another flaw would have to be the A-pillars. The pillars are extremely thick and could create some horrible blind spots for smaller drivers that could hide an entire car. The lid to the trunk is very small and makes it quite difficult to fit larger objects inside of it. On a positive note there is a full sized spare tire that can be found under the trunks floor, but it seems like the list of issues just continues to grow longer as I spend more time with the Accord V6 Luxury. Thankfully the Accord does manage to pull off a few positives. You have excess cabin space in the front and rear of the vehicle that is generous to your legs and head. Passengers in the back will have to deal with not having air vents, but they will be able to enjoy the cushy armrest that also has a drink holder and the amount door storage. In the front you will be able to take pleasure in the dual climate controls and play tunes with the 6 Disc CD-player/radio. The driver can easily see the backlit instruments and the user friendly controls. The steering wheel controls are not lit up, but that is really the only shortcoming and is a small one at that. They are still very easy to use and shouldn't pose any problems to anyone. Time for the final verdict of the Honda Accord V6 Luxury. I would have to pass on this vehicle at this moment. For me it just fails to give you the luxury experience that it is claiming to do. You have to deal with numerous mishaps as well as compromised ride quality. If you are in the market for a mid-level luxury car then you may find this car to fit your needs. One major plus to owning this vehicle is the outstanding engine, but even though the engine is of a high quality that doesn't mean the rest of the car is. If they were to tune it up, fix a few flaws, and add some better features then I would possibly pursued to think differently. However, until then I think the best bet would be to go with one if its competitors.
