Saab 9-3 Linear SportCombi

Oveview

The Saab 9-3 Linear SportCombi is the base model in the SportCombi series, and starts at around $51,000. The car is equipped with temperature and sound systems-there is a single disc CD player and the temperature is climate controlled.

Like many other vehicles with an automatic transmission, the shifting on this vehicle is not the best. With a manual transmission, the car could get better fuel efficiency. If you are more concerned with the comfort and feel of the car than the actual driving specifics, then the Saab 9-3 Linear SportCombi is definitely worth checking into.

Details

Like many other vehicles with an automatic transmission, the shifting on this vehicle is not the best. It is a five speed automatic, and the shifting is delayed and slow. In addition to bad shifting, the 2.0L, 4 cylinder engine just is not strong enough. The pickup rate from a resting state to 100 is not impressive, and possibly could be improved with a manual transmission. The brakes require a rather forceful push to be fully activated, but with the Anti Lock Brake system brakes and the ESP system the car brakes well on all types of surfaces. Not only does it handle a straight road well, but driving around curves is easy and smooth-making it live up to the SportCombi name. Whether you are taking a short drive into the city or on a road trip somewhere, the 9-3 Linear is adequate. For longer trips, there is plentiful space for all passengers in the inside. There is not as much space in the trunk if the car is full of passengers, but if there are no rear passengers, then the seat can be folded down to provide for more storage or transporting space. The fuel efficiency is not as good as some of the four cylinder vehicles in the same range as the 9-3 Linear. It averages at about 11.5L/110KM, which could possibly be attributed to the automatic transmission. With a manual transmission, the car could get better fuel efficiency.

Saab 9-3 Linear Sport Combi

Standard features for the interior of the Saab 9-3 Linear are heated leather seats, electric windows and locks, cruise control, an Electronic Stability Program, and multiple airbags. The car is equipped with temperature and sound systems-there is a single disc CD player and the temperature is climate controlled. The sound system could be better for the price-most cars in this price range have more than a single disc player, and the sound quality wasn't the best either. If the buyer chose to spring for the Sport Pack, the car would be equipped with park assist, power driver's seat, fog lights, 17" alloy wheels, and a color matched exterior.

The Saab 9-3 Linear SportCombi is the base model in the SportCombi series, and starts at around $51,000. There are additional features that you can add to the vehicle that will make it a little more costly, including a different transmission and the Sport Pack. All models of the SportCombi line are impressive in the aesthetics department-it is classy and unique, which makes it impressive. The top of the line model in the SportCombi series is the Aero, which is about $30,000 more than the Linear. Though some of the more obvious features are different in the two, there really isn't enough difference to warrant the drastic price increase.

In conclusion, the Saab 9-3 Linear SportCombi is definitely a strong competitor in the area that it is in. One of the fierce competitors of the Linear is the Volkswagen Passat, and if you compare the two vehicles, it is a close race. The price tag on the SportCombi is buying you a car that will last you for quite some time and is visually appealing on both the outside and inside. If you are more concerned with the comfort and feel of the car than the actual driving specifics, then the Saab 9-3 Linear SportCombi is definitely worth checking into. However, if you are looking for a car that is a speed demon and will compete with the drag racers on the weekend, this is not the vehicle for you because of the weak engine and slow pick-up. In the end, just compare the competitors and make a well-informed decision that will best suit you.
