Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION Car Review

Overview

Not many station wagons can handle bolting around corners with ease, but the Passat 4MOTION pulls this off with no problems.

The Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION station wagon has the same 3.2 liter V6 engine and 6 speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) as the extremely popular Golf R32.

When you are driving the Passat 4MOTION on windy roads, you will soon notice how truly remarkable the station wagon is. With great speeds you’ll definitely need the great brakes. The Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION is a safe, reliable, and enjoyable car to drive.

Details

The Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION station wagon has the same 3.2 liter V6 engine and 6 speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) as the extremely popular Golf R32. Along with that it also has the same All Wheel Drive (AWD) system as the Haldex. With all of these combined it makes up a quick and powerful station wagon.

Volkswagen Passat 4Motion

It would be safe to say that the new Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION is very impressive, especially for a station wagon. Not only is it good looking, it also handles and performs extremely well on the road. Not many station wagons can handle bolting around corners with ease, but the Passat 4MOTION pulls this off with no problems.

The exterior of the vehicle sets it aside from the rest on the road. If you are looking at the car from the side you will see the 17 inch allow wheels, and impressive looking door handles. From the back of the car you will certainly notice the set of dual exhaust pipes that pretty much take over the bumpers skirt and also some very nice looking LED tail lights. You can also see the parking sensors that are located in the front and rear of the vehicle. The blinkers are conveniently built in to the door mirrors and add a little extra flare to the car.

The steering wheel is comfortable to grab and fits to your hands nicely. To fit your needs even better it is telescopic and tilt adjustable. The best part of the steering wheel in my opinion though, is that it comes with steering wheel controls. With these controls you can do many tasks with the radio such as changing the station or volume, and manage the driver display located in the dashboard. As far as the front display of the radio goes, it is as easy to use as it is to read. The speedometer and tachometer are in great locations and are easy to read as well, making it easier for you to take a quick look without spending too much time with your eyes off the road.

The inside of the Passat 4MOTION is even more impressive than the outside. The colors that were used go together very well and add a nice effect. A nice smaller addition is the DSG and 4MOTION symbols on the cover of the gearbox and the gear lever. Seeing those certainly makes being in the car more exciting and exhilarating. The seats come equipped with beautiful dark leather and are heated as well. They are a little unsupportive at times, but for the most part they are extremely comfortable for both the driver and passengers.

The leg room in the Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION is more than enough. You can easily fit a decent amount of passengers comfortably. The only downside is the center seat in the back. Since it is quite a bit firmer than the other seats in the car, it can be uncomfortable and because the car is All Wheel Drive, the driveline shaft is somewhat invasive to the passenger in the middle.

The Driver Shift Gearbox (DSG) brings the best out of any 6 cylinder and works wonders for the Passat 4MOTION. The combination of the gearbox and the well made engine offer impressive get up power, allowing you to go from zero to one-hundred clicks in a mere 7.2 seconds. With great speeds you definitely need great brakes. When driving the Passat 4MOTION that is something you do not have to worry about. The brakes are made very well, handling the speeds and capabilities of the vehicle with no noticeable problems.

When you are driving the Passat 4MOTION on windy roads, you will soon notice how truly remarkable the station wagon is. The vehicle can handle twists and turns very impressively. There is a bit of a body roll, but it doesn't have an effect on how the car handles curves. Even when in full tilt you can pull through a corner with a generous amount of grip on the road. However, the body roll does become a bit of a problem when you quickly make a change in direction, and if you are not careful when doing this the car can become jumpy. As long as you don't make any split second decisions you shouldn't ever see this problem in action.

The price of the Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION depends on which model you wish to go with. You can choose between the 2.0 liter Turbo Diesel priced at $44.990, the 2.0 liter Turbo FSI priced at $46,990, or the 3.2 liter V6 priced at $56,990. With these options you should be able to find a model that will fit your needs and price range. Each model has a number of features including a 17 inch alloy wheels, rear fog lamp, auto lock, adjustable seat belts, roof rails, trip computer, cruise control, heat insulated tinted glass, rain sensing windshield wipers, and a 6 disc changing CD player that plays your favorite tunes though 8 different speakers.

In conclusion, this station wagon is truly worth every penny. It has absolutely amazing handling, performance, control, and tons of features. There isn't really anything else you could ask for out of a family station wagon. The Volkswagen Passat 4MOTION is a safe, reliable, and enjoyable car to drive. If you get a chance to test drive or own one of these vehicles, you will be nothing but completely satisfied.
